Philippians, Chapter 4

"15": Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.

Paul had a special relationship with the church he founded in Philippi. They were in constant contact with him, and supported his spiritual endeavors.

"16": For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

Even when he visited Thessalonica, he was dependent upon the church at Philippi. Throughout Paul’s ministry they did not cease to support him as directed by God.

"17": Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

Paul did not write to the church because he wanted a gift. He wrote to the church so that the people would understand what happened when they gave.

When you look at the phrase “that may abound” it’s a Greek figure of speech that translates to increase. The word account refers to the records that are maintained on each individual that walks this earth, or what is written in the books of your life.

Each time they gave they partook in the rewards that Paul had obtained for winning souls through the power of Christ. Because they fueled him with the necessities that he needed to accomplish his mission.

Everyone that Christ touched through Paul went into their account.
